One of those great "what if " scenarios is "What if George Lucas was able to go with Toshiro Mifune as Obi-Wan Kenobi, as he originally wanted?"

People forget that even back in 1977, people were playing the "who's related to whom" game, with fanzines wondering if Luke and Ben were related, or if Luke and Han were long lost brothers (and NOBODY thought Luke was related to Vader, and Leia as Luke's sister warranted a "yeah, right. Then why did they smooch?" response). Maybe a gaijin Obi-Wan did keep us guessing a little longer. On the other hand, Mr. Mifune may have been a little less grouchy about answering Star Wars questions than Alec Guinness.

My personal favorite speculation was Ben was actually a clone, and his designation was "O-B 1",
